About Psychodynamic Therapy
Psychodynamic therapy is an evidence-based psychotherapy that helps facilitate a deeper awareness and understanding of the self. This approach to therapy values the relationship between the therapist and client and recognizes the need for the client to feel safe, supported and understood. Without this basic trust and safety, it is impossible to allow oneself to feel vulnerable enough to engage in the work. Sessions include exploring how past experiences and unconscious processes, such as underlying feelings and thoughts, impact our behavior and well being in the present. Gaining insight into what motivates our behavior offers an opportunity for change. We can utilize the insights we gain to enhance our emotional well being, to feel our feelings rather than avoid or suppress them, as well to cultivate healthy ways of coping with daily challenges. In addition, psychodynamic therapy provides an opportunity to identify problematic relational patterns that may get in the way of building meaningful relationships with others. When we identify and understand our patterns, we stop repeating them.
Psychodynamic therapy offers profound benefits, including reduced anxiety, improved mood, and enhanced self-awareness. By exploring your unconscious patterns and early relationships, you can experience deep insight into recurring life themes. This therapy not only promotes emotional clarity but also encourages a holistic approach to healing, integrating past experiences with present understanding to transform how you relate to yourself and others.
Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT) focuses on the connection between thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is based on the idea that our thoughts influence how we feel and behave, and that by changing unhelpful thinking patterns, we can improve emotional responses and behaviors. Common goals of CBT include identifying, challenging and reframing unhelpful thinking patterns or cognitive distortions, as well as improving emotion regulation and problems-solving skills. .
